Forget his goals: Matheus Cunha says Man Utd teammate did something truly ‘unbelievable’ vs Roma

Matheus Cunha was keen to praise his young counterpart Shea Lacey for setting him up for the match-winner vs AS Roma.
Manchester United certainly did it the hard way at Old Trafford last night, as they trailed by two goals until the 58th minute, when Bruno Fernandes’ converted penalty kick-started the comeback.

It was then Cunha who oversaw perhaps his most clinical outing of the season, as he found the back of the net twice to complete United’s turnaround and clinch a crucial three points in matchweek four of the Champions League – while also ending the side’s nine-game winless streak.
For the Brazilian’s second goal, 19-year-old Lacey, who entered the fray in the 74th minute, played him in with a stellar pass.
Cunha said of the passage of play to CBS Sports: “It was an unbelievable pass from Shea. It’s beautiful when you have an academy player that comes [on] and has a great impact in the game.
“In the moment, I saw Shea with the ball. The first thing that came to [my] mind was [to] go in the box and then control well with the left and shoot with the right.
“And yeah, I think when I saw the ball going, to be honest, I didn’t believe it — the comeback!”
How Lacey has been faring

Fans and pundits are now calling for Lacey to make his first Premier League start on Sunday, when United host Aston Villa.
The attacker has featured only twice in the league this term; for 10 minutes against Hull City on the opening day and for 12 minutes in the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
He made his maiden start of 2026/2027 in United’s Carabao Cup opener at home to Brighton and Hove Albion, and has now racked up three UCL appearances.
