Everton make decision on Grealish facing Newcastle after 'breach of discipline'

Jack Grealish has been left out of Everton's matchday squad for the second time following his 'breach of discipline'. Grealish, 31, was absent for last Thursday's 3-1 win at home to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, with it later emerging that the Manchester City loanee had missed training in the lead-up to the game.

And Grealish will remain sidelined when the two teams meet again for a Premier League fixture at St James' Park on Monday. The Athletic report that the forward is yet to regain his fitness since his last appearance on October 17.

It's unclear whether Grealish will be involved when Everton face Coventry this Friday. Toffees manager David Moyes confirmed after beating Newcastle last week that the decision to leave him out was made by the club's hierarchy.

"You probably know I'm not going to give any details," Moyes explained. "It's a club decision, it's something I don't want to speak too much about."

Grealish also missed Everton's previous game, a 2-0 loss away to Arsenal on October 24, through 'illness'. The former Aston Villa star is on loan at Everton until the end of the 2026-27 season.

His contract with City expires next summer when it'll be six years since they shelled out a British-record £100million to sign him from Villa. After falling out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, Grealish was loaned to Everton last term.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a decent campaign which was curtailed by injury. Grealish made two appearances for City this season before rejoining the Toffees on transfer deadline day.

While refusing to give any details about Grealish's absence, Moyes praised his players for not allowing it to be a distraction. "The one thing about Everton is that it has got good values behind it," the Everton boss said.

"All the players stand up to the values on pitch and off the pitch. The players did a brilliant job tonight. We are limited in some areas but we are doing our best to keep challenging."

Everton travel to the North East sitting one point and two places behind the hosts. A win for either side would lift them to at least seventh place.
