Premier League star flips his £160,000 car on its roof in crash: Hull City's new £10m signing left hanging upside down in his Land Rover Defender while on the way to training

Hull City winger Sorba Thomas was involved in a crash that saw his car flip onto its roof on his way to training, the club has confirmed.

A Land Rover Defender with a personalised number plate linking it to the Tigers' £10million deadline day signing was pictured upside down with smashed glass just a stone's throw from the Premier League club's training ground.

The luxury car is a favourite of footballers and can be worth up to £160,000. Hull have confirmed Thomas, 27, was in the vehicle.

A member of staff from the club, understood to be manager Sergej Jakirovic, can be seen in images from the scene of the accident on Millhouse Wood Lane in Cottingham, just outside Hull.

Residents looked on stunned at the crash on the narrow road, where locals say speeds typically only hit 15mph. Thomas is said to have escaped 'completely unscathed'.

A Hull City statement read: 'Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club's Cottingham training ground.

'The club is aware of images of Sorba's car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.'

Hours before the crash, Jakirovic had praised the winger saying he had 'no doubt' about his capability to play in the Premier League.

He said: 'I don't have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship.

'He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left-sided number ten. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good. Also, he has very good set-pieces.

'He is sharp and has speed. Also, in defence, he is very responsible. I think he suits us a lot. Like always, I hope he can help us.'

The Welsh international started Tuesday night's 1-0 Carabao Cup loss to Sunderland and made an appearance off the bench in the club's 0-0 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

After his cameo against the Europa League champions, Thomas shared his delight on Instagram. He posted: 'Pinch [me] moment for me and my family today!!! Premier League debut.'

Hull's next league match comes away at Chelsea tomorrow at 3pm.

It comes as the Tigers were handed a £30,000 fine from the FA on Monday for homophobic chanting during their game against Chelsea last season.
