Arsenal: How Mikel Arteta reacted to being booked for walking outside technical area

Cheers from the rival fans as Gunners boss is punished breaking the rules

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta appeared to thank for fourth official after being booked for stepping outside of his technical area.

The Gunners boos has gained a reputation for wandering from the designated area inf front of the dugout.

Last week, at Stamford Bridge, Arteta was spotted shimmying down the touchline, yards from his technical area, but did not face any punishment from the match referee over his officials.

Arteta's perceived repeated dismissal of the rules as riled rival fans of the years, but was shown a yellow card by referee John Brooks during the first half of Saturday's game at Sunderland.

Huge cheers came from the home fans as Brooks jogged towards the touchline and booked Arteta, much to the Gunners manager's dismay.

Arteta was smiling at first, and appeared to attempt to hug the referee before the yellow card was brandished.

But that smile then disappeared as Arteta then turned around and wagged his finger at the fourth official. The Spaniard then appeared to mime writing something down and then ticking it off, the suggestion seemingly being the fourth official was behind the booking.

"Mikel Arteta doesn't like a small technical area," co-commentator Lucy Ward said on TNT Sports.

Bookmaker Paddy Power posted on X: “Arteta has been booked for being outside his technical area. Miracles can happen, folks!”

Referee Brooks is taking charge of his third Premier League game of the season, and showed 11 yellow cards across his previous two games - which saw five in Chelsea’s win over Fulham and six as Everton held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw.
