Attention has turned to the Carabao Cup as Arsenal prepare to face Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night.

The Gunners have a trip to Highbury Stadium in the fourth round of the competition to face the League Two side. Then, they will travel to Anfield to take on a rejuvenated Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta has confirmed he is not afraid to rotate his squad in order to get the best out of each competition this season. Speaking after his side beat Everton 2-0 despite making five changes, the Spaniard explained: "That’s great for us, and will for sure make me do it again.

"We have no reason not to do it, because we have an unbelievable group of players with the right mentality who are all ready to play their part when they’re ready. They did that today."

Julian Alvarez decision made

Atletico Madrid have reportedly confirmed they will not permit Julian Alvarez to depart in January, shutting down Arsenal's aspirations of securing the Argentinian striker this season. TEAMtalk reports that the Gunners had maintained contact with Alvarez's representatives in the expectation that he would be receptive to a switch to England in the upcoming transfer window.

The forward had substantial ambitions to join Barcelona but Atleti remained firm on their stance to prevent this transfer completely. Arsenal had monitored the situation closely and were positioned to be the leading candidates for his signature in January.

However, fresh reports have surfaced suggesting that Alvarez will not be allowed to depart Madrid during the present campaign. It also appears the forward has reversed his public wish to leave after issuing an apology to supporters following their victory over RC Deportivo.

Alvarez netted the winner and told Movistar Plus that he regrets speaking publicly about transfers. He said: "I'd like to apologise to our fans for what I said at the World Cup; it was a mistake in terms of how I said it and the timing. I understand why the fans are angry. If I were a fan, I'd be angry too. Especially given how they've supported me since I arrived."

Offer for target confirmed

Arsenal have reportedly tabled an offer for teenage sensation Gilberto Mora ahead of the January transfer window in an attempt to beat their Premier League rivals. Sports Witness states that the Gunners' pursuit of the Club Tijuana attacking midfielder stretches back to last October and they have now taken action.

Former Mexico defender Claudio Suarez has corroborated claims that bids have been lodged for Mora from Europe. He told Unanimo: "I know for a fact that he's had offers. Arsenal showed interest, and so did Bayern Munich. Arsenal's plan was to sign him and then loan him out, since he might not have been a starter for them right away. I happen to know that both Arsenal and Bayern presented him with a great project."

Suarez believes Mora needs to move to Europe to elevate his career following an impressive World Cup with Mexico. He said: "The truth is that Gil Mora's situation is unique - the kind that comes along once in a very long while.

"He's extraordinary, both because of his age and the entire development path he's been on since Juan Carlos Osorio gave him his debut. If it were up to me, I'd let him go.

"He needs to head to Europe to start gaining that kind of experience. It wouldn't be the end of the world if things didn't go well -though I personally believe he'll do very well. It's just a matter of finding the right club - somewhere he can adapt quickly and where he'll be well supported."

The 18-year-old has tallied up 18 goal contributions across 63 appearances for Tijuana and has also opened his account at international level. He featured in four of Mexico's five World Cup fixtures this summer and played his part in their Gold Cup victory over the United States the previous year.
