Chelsea 2-2 Hull City: Belloumi brace helps Tigers earn point at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City at Stamford Bridge after having to respond to Mohamed Belloumi’s first-half brace. Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea an early lead, but the promoted visitors turned the game around before the break.

Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea an early lead before Hull City winger Mohamed Belloumi scored twice in six minutes. João Pedro equalised in the 66th minute from Cole Palmer’s low cross as both sides had chances to win it late on, but neither found a fifth goal.

Chelsea went ahead after seven minutes. Hull’s first corner ended with Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez spilling the ball, but the hosts broke quickly and João Pedro carried the move forward before finding Rogers on the left. The Chelsea midfielder drove into the area and beat Konstantinos Tzolakis at his near post.

Hull responded in the 28th minute. Hull midfielder Ryan Giles chased the ball down on the left and crossed into the area, where Jorrel Hato failed to deal with the delivery. Mohamed Belloumi reacted behind him and struck a low half-volley past Martínez to make it 1-1.

Six minutes later, Hull were in front. Semi Ajayi headed a corner against the crossbar before the visitors kept the attack alive. Hull striker Oli McBurnie then found Belloumi, who drove in his second goal of the afternoon.

Chelsea pushed forward after the interval and Tzolakis tipped away Reece James’ free-kick, but Hull nearly extended their lead in the 61st minute. Martínez failed to hold Regan Slater’s effort before recovering to block McBurnie’s attempt from the rebound.

The equaliser arrived five minutes later. Cole Palmer worked his way down the left before sending a low ball towards the near post, where Pedro adjusted his run and lifted a left-footed finish over Tzolakis and into the roof of the net.

Hull still threatened late on and substitute Mohamed-Ali Cho had a major chance in the 87th minute, but Martínez spread himself to keep out his back-post effort. Chelsea substitute Estêvão then tested Tzolakis in stoppage time, while a late handball appeal against Ajayi was waved away.

Palmer sent the final free-kick over the bar as Chelsea failed to complete the comeback, while Hull left Stamford Bridge with a point after conceding for the first time in the Premier League this season.
