Conceição-Zirkzee Swap Could Break Juventus Transfer Deadlock

The Deadlock United Are Trying To Break

The swap idea sits alongside – rather than replacing – the existing structural impasse between the two clubs. Stretty News reported last week that Juventus had opened talks with Zirkzee’s representatives, but that United’s €35–40 million valuation and insistence on a guaranteed permanent exit remained the central obstacle. Juventus, whose budget has been heavily committed to defensive recruitment, cannot comfortably absorb a straight purchase at that price.

That gap is precisely why a swap framework is being floated. New Juventus sporting director Ricky Massara – who attempted to bring Zirkzee to Roma during his time in the Italian capital – is driving the interest from the Turin end, and his familiarity with the player gives this pursuit more substance than a speculative enquiry.

Why United Should Think Carefully

Zirkzee’s case for departure is not hard to make. He managed just 609 Premier League minutes across 24 appearances in 2025/26, pushed to the margins by the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko. The 25-year-old wants regular football, and Serie A is understood to be his preferred destination.

The complication for INEOS is positional. Michael Carrick currently has no specialist left-winger, and Conceição – primarily a right-sided attacker who arrived at Juventus on loan from Porto in 2024 before being purchased for €30 million – would not solve that problem directly. United’s contingency striker planning suggests they are prepared for Zirkzee’s exit, but a swap that also reshapes the attacking width needs more thought than a straightforward sale.
