Ex-Manchester United star Clayton Blackmore has called for Mason Greenwood to 'come home' after scoring against Liverpool. Greenwood, 25, equalised in the first half of Wednesday's Champions League clash and helped Fenerbahce win 3-2.

The forward joined Fenerbahce from Marseille during the summer transfer window, having left United permanently in 2024. Greenwood hadn't featured for his boyhood club for more than two years, having been arrested and later charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour and assault.

In February 2023, the charges against him were dropped. The Crown Prosecution Service said that key witnesses had withdrawn their involvement and 'new material had come to light'.

United conducted an international investigation and loaned him out to Spanish side Getafe for the 2023-24 season before sanctioning a permanent move to Marseille for an initial £23.3million. But Blackmore, who made 186 appearances for the Red Devils between 1982 and 1994 after coming through their academy, has called for his return.

1. Head THIS WAY

In a post on X, the former United player wrote: "Well done Mason Greenwood beating Liverpool. Come home to us please."

Greenwood's free-kick was his eighth goal since signing for Fenerbahce in a deal worth up to £33.27m. United earned £10.57m through a sell-on clause inserted the deal that took him to Marseille.

The one-time England international has also provided four assists. Fenerbahce saw manager Ismail Kartal resign last week, leaving ex-Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt to be appointed as caretaker.

Kuyt said after beating his old club: "It was a very special night, I think not only for me, but everyone who loves Fenerbahce. We told each other to stick together, to be united.

"And also to keep believing in ourselves, and that is something [which] I learned from another club [that] means a lot to me, and that was Liverpool, the club we played against tonight. So I'm very happy with all the players, I'm very happy with all the people who were involved that we made a miracle tonight.

"Although we are in a very difficult situation, we have a chance to bring another miracle in Istanbul. And if you get that miracle, things can change in a positive way.

"But the reaction needs to come from us first ... If you create that atmosphere, even the best team in the world can get difficulties. And I think the win tonight was not an easy win, but it was not luck.

"I think at the end of the day, we deserved it. We create many chances. We keep pushing and we keep fighting against, in my opinion, one of the best teams in Europe."
