Enzo Maresca has revealed that five senior Manchester City players have been given time off ahead of their Carabao Cup tie against Brighton.

Erling Haaland, Elliot Anderson, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Joško Gvardiol and captain Rúben Dias have all been afforded three days away from the club following Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at Aston Villa.

Maresca says the decision was taken to allow the quintet to recover their energy before returning to action this weekend.

“After the Villa game, we gave five players three days off to recover their energy,” the City boss said.

“Erling, Ruben, Elliot, Gigi and Josko. They are all on holiday.

“Three days off for energy. Go, come back full of energy and we go again.”
