Harry Kane cools Premier League return talk after Bayern Munich move
Harry Kane has played down the prospect of a Premier League return, saying the urge to chase Alan Shearer’s record has waned since joining Bayern Munich.
According to Goal.com, the England captain is closing in on a new deal at Bayern. He left Tottenham in 2023 for £86.4 million with 213 Premier League goals, long tipped to threaten Shearer’s 260.
After receiving the European Golden Shoe on Wednesday, Kane said his outlook had changed, that he is extremely happy in Munich and that life outside England has deepened his appreciation of European football.
The 33-year-old scored 61 goals in 51 appearances last season, powering Vincent Kompany’s side to a league and cup double. He is now into the final 12 months of his four-year contract.
Kane feels Bayern’s set-up brings out his best, and he did not rule out future possibilities while stressing he is focused on Bayern for now. He believes last season was the finest of his career, contributing 73 goals for club and country.
He also noted that the freedom he enjoys now builds on responsibilities he assumed late in his Tottenham career. Bayern face Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup on Saturday, and he wants to start the new campaign with silverware.
