IN THE DRIVING SEAT! Arsenal star delivers clear message to Arteta as Gunners end Liverpool hoodoo to move clear at the top of the table

Arsenal made it four Premier League wins in a row as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield for the first time in 14 years.

The Gunners dominated possession in the opening period of the game and their fast start paid off after just 16 minutes. Alisson Becker's wayward pass saw the away side pick up the ball in the final third.

The ball made its way to Noni Madueke, who laid it off for an overlapping Declan Rice, and the England star superbly played it across goal to allow Kai Havertz to finish with a close-range tap-in.

Andoni Iraola's side responded exactly how you'd expect a Liverpool team losing at home to do so. The likes of Trey Nyoni and Alexis Mac Allister began getting on the ball in dangerous areas and distributing it to Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola, who put the Arsenal defence under pressure.

They failed to test David Raya, but the goalkeeper was beaten by Wirtz's free-kick that was stopped by the crossbar. Liverpool had cause to be annoyed during the first half after a penalty was not awarded when Alexander Isak had his shirt pulled by Jurrien Timber in the box when attempting to get on the end of a cross.

1. Head THIS WAY

It's the Gunners who end the weekend with all smiles as they move three points ahead of Manchester City to already mark their 10th win of the campaign across all competitions.

Havertz was dropped for the first time this season last week in the Gunners' 2-0 victory over Everton. He did manage a 22-minute cameo against the Toffees, but earned his place back in Arteta's starting XI against Liverpool and what an impact he made.

The 27-year-old was in the perfect position to tap home past Alisson Becker after getting on the end of Rice's accurate pass across the box to give the champions the lead. In what is his third goal this season, Havertz isn't known for his goalscoring prowess, but time and time again, he's come up big for his team.

While his demotion to the bench against Everton may have been partly down to rest and giving Viktor Gyokeres an opportunity to impress, Arteta has been given another reminder of what Havertz provides when he starts.

Arsenal are usually the team that demonstrates their dominance through incessant crosses, but they've been getting a taste of their own medicine at Anfield. Iraola's side put a staggering 19 crosses in the first half alone as they continually put the Gunners' defence under the cosh.

Despite the intense pressure of the ball flying in from the flanks, with Milos Kerkez contributing most of them, the Reds were unable to convert any of the opportunities they created. The best chance came through the Hungarian's pinpoint cross to a free Alexis Mac Allister in the box, but the Argentine failed to get his header on target.
