Kane is England's greatest ever goalscorer - but needs a trophy to be best player
Harry Kane is England’s greatest-ever goalscorer - but is not yet the greatest-ever player.
Kane is absolutely magnificent and is an all-time great. He is already England’s top scorer with 89 goals and he will equal Peter Shilton’s record of 125 appearances at Wembley tonight.
I look at Kane as England's best-ever striker, wonderful leader and captain. He must win the Ballon d’Or otherwise they might as well scrap it. However, we don’t really talk about him as the best-ever player. Why? It’s the trophy.
But it is Jude Bellingham who I believe has the potential and capacity to become the greatest-ever player - and I am convinced he will become that player.

Bellingham is the best player I have seen in an England shirt bar none but I don’t think either he or Kane can be the greatest until they win a trophy.
But I think Bellingham gives England’s men’s team their best chance of ending that wait for a major trophy. That is how special he is.
I would argue that Sir Bobby Charlton - because of the World Cup victory in 1966 - is England’s greatest-ever player until this point.
LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK? Is Harry Kane England's best-ever player?
I’m sure some people might even see Sir Geoff Hurst as that player because of his hat trick at Wembley and he effectively won England the trophy. It’s all about the trophy.
It is so difficult to compare between eras, generations and teams. I watched the whole of the 1966 final again in full recently. It is so different, the pace is slower and even the ball…
It might as well be a different sport and that is in no way a criticism. It’s just different. Tactics, formation, absolutely everything.
If you look at Bellingham now he looks super human. He is an athlete, so strong and powerful. His physique is magnificent and you cannot knock him off the ball.

He is so intelligent, so articulate and he is still only 23. He is in line to win his 60th cap at Wembley. He could win 200 caps. He has got time on his side.
Bellingham dominates games - just as he did against Croatia and he even stood out against Spain at Wembley - like no other England player that I have seen in the best part of 30 years of covering them.
Never mind this stuff about unlocking his potential. He struggled with a shoulder injury for more than a year. Had a hamstring issue last season.
This form is about him, this is real level. This is his brilliance. And that is why I think he will become England’s greatest-ever player.
