Man Utd chiefs make fresh decision on Carlos Baleba fitness as new debut date set

Manchester United will reportedly look to introduce Carlos Baleba to the fold after the international break.

The summer signing has been unavailable since making his £70 million switch from Brighton and Hove Albion in August due to an ankle ligament injury he sustained in pre-season.

United shelled out an upfront fee of £65m to get a deal over the line with the Seagulls, having originally established their interest 12 months prior.

Last year, INEOS approached Brighton to gauge the feasibility of doing business for Baleba, but his club blocked any potential move, with Fabian Hurzeler adamant about keeping hold of him for at least another season.

Even though the 22-year-old’s form faltered throughout the campaign, United retained their interest in bringing him to Old Trafford, and decided he would be the most suitable addition to complete the midfield rebuild this summer.

As Baleba’s injury has not been deemed a long-term or complicated problem, United were happy to add him to Michael Carrick’s ranks even if it meant he would be sidelined for the first weeks of the term.

When will Baleba make his maiden outing for United?

Now, UtdDistrict claims that club chiefs are hoping the Cameroonian will be fit enough to make his full debut for the clash with Leeds United at Elland Road on October 18.

It would give Baleba an extra three weeks of recovery and preparation over the prolonged international break, which commences at the end of matchweek five this weekend.

However, it also means he will miss the upcoming fixtures against Brighton and Hove Albion (Carabao Cup), Fulham (Premier League), Tottenham Hotspur (PL) and Atletico Madrid (Champions League).

Until then, Carrick will continue rotating Andrey Santos, Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans.
