The World Cup may be dominating football headlines this summer but Manchester United aren't letting it get in the way of business. That much is clear following the latest string of updates hinting at movement heading in both directions at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick 's side are already homing in on their first major signing being made official as Ederson edges closer to completing his £39million move . However, there are murmurs suggesting United have made huge progress in pursuit of another star midfielder.

The World Cup has complicated matters somewhat in regards to the level of progress United can expect to make while certain stars are distracted. However, that hasn't kept the club resting on its laurels, as Mirror Football compiles Tuesday's biggest United transfer headlines.

In a development many around the Theatre of Dreams have been waiting to hear, Mateus Fernandes has allegedly agreed terms with United. Recent speculation has suggested the Red Devils are leading the chase for the Portugal international, with Tottenham also said to be interested.

Now comes the small matter of agreeing a fee with West Ham , who are said to be demanding more than £80m for the player. However, United are reportedly resistant to go close to matching that fee.

According to talkSPORT , Fernandes is content with the terms being offered by United following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League . If those reports prove genuine, the 21-year-old has effectively given the thumbs up to joining United and is ready to let the two clubs thrash out terms.

While United may have been first through the door, that haste may amount to little unless they can appease West Ham. New Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is also thought to be a fan of Fernandes, though Los Blancos have already spent big this summer.

Fernandes now has two seasons of Premier League experience under his belt after joining from Southampton in a £25m deal last summer. It seems all but certain the player won't be plying his trade in the Championship next term, though the Hammers hold a lot of the power as their man seeks an exit route out of the London Stadium.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.

The competition for Marcus Rashford's signature is supposedly heating up with Tottenham taking an interest in the attacker . The England forward is currently away at the World Cup but continues to dominate headlines back home as questions over his future persist.

After a hugely productive loan at Barcelona , the Catalans decided not to trigger the purchase option in his deal. However, their loss could end up being Spurs' gain as The i Paper reported the north Londoners are keen on reaching an agreement for Rashford.

Spurs have significantly reinforced their defence after completing deals to sign Jan Paul van Hecke , Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi. However, Roberto De Zerbi is still yet to make any additions to his attack just yet.

It makes sense that Tottenham would be in for fresh forward talent after Dejan Kulusevski missed the entire 2025/26 campaign through injury. Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus also had extensive time out with injury this past season, while Xavi Simons was forced to miss the World Cup after being sidelined late in the campaign.

Rashford's current £300,000-a-week wages are reportedly the biggest stumbling block, though he took a pay cut to join Barca last summer. Provided he's ready to make further sacrifice in securing a permanent transfer, Spurs could continue their summer spree by making a move for the speedster this summer.
