Manchester United's new era is in full swing with Michael Carrick closing in on his first signing in Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
The new man in charge landed the job off the back of a stunning 17-game spell that saw the Red Devils rise up to third and secure a return to the Champions League . Now the tough work really begins and next season will provide a much sterner test of Carrick and this United team.
For so long they've been a side battling to make the top four, or top five as its now become. That represents a huge shift in expectations for a club who once dominated the Premier League , but ultimately haven't challenged for a title since they last won it 13 years ago.
Carrick's stellar run of form has seen some tip United for a charge towards the summit next term, especially with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool in transition. That would leave their squad needing a ruthless cull, with some players struggling to contribute.
There is talk of the club going after five new signings this summer, addressing issues at the back, in midfield and the final third. If so that would give the squad a new look with certain players being moved on.
Mirror Football has taken a look at the current United squad as they look to become title challengers once again and assess which players could be part of a champion side and who may need to be moved on, be that due to quality or fitness.
When you consider that the last decade has seen the Premier League winners have goalkeepers named Thibaut Courtois, Ederson, Alisson and David Raya , it underlines the need for a world class goalkeeper.
Few would've put Senne Lammens in that category but the Belgian does look to be a growing force. He came in early on in his debut season and quickly looked like an assured presence, which had been missing for a number of years.

Lammens made very few errors and he wouldn't be the first unknown quantity to arrive in Manchester only to become a major household name. Beyond him, should injury hit, there are natural doubts and Andre Onana and his hefty wages could well be moved on.
Keep: Lammens
Question marks: Onana, Heaton, Bayindir
In the 17 games Carrick presided over United kept six clean sheets. They were by no means breached with regularity, but they couldn't be categorised as a tough nut to crack and that will need to be addressed. They conceded at least twice in a game seven times in that 17-game period.
They have a number of good centre-halves, but maybe none you would call elite. Leny Yoro is a work in progress, as is Ayden Heaven, and both have huge potential. Harry Maguire brings more than just his on-pitch performances, showcasing resilience throughout his time in Manchester and boasting huge experience.

Matthijs de Ligt was a player deemed surplus to requirements by Bayern Munich and Juventus , which has to raise red flags. Lisandro Martinez has defied questions over his size to prove himself in England but there must be a nagging doubt over his ability to stay fit.
Diogo Dalot has been a consistent performer whilst Patrick Dorgu too has enjoyed moments that suggest he's more than worth keeping. Luke Shaw is another player with fitness issues, but when available and fit has constantly proven his worth. Tyrell Malacia's contract expires this sumer.
Keep: Yoro, Heaven, Maguire, Dorgu, Dalot, Shaw
Question marks: De Ligt, Martinez, Mazraoui
This is the area that Carrick and co are targeting most over the summer as they look to add more quality, more legs and more depth. Casemiro's departure came with him hitting form, but age and time were always against him. Kobbie Mainoo's resurgence was largely down to Carrick and he's again looking like the player who was tipped to dominate the midfield for the next decade.
Bruno Fernandes could yet add the PFA Player of the Year award to his other individual accolades. Nothing more can be said about the playmaker's influence.

The same cannot be said for Mason Mount , who has rarely, if ever, looked like the player who was once so crucial at Chelsea . His move to Manchester has not worked out and injuries have not helped. Nevertheless, the creative star would likely want Fernandes' role, and that is not opening up anytime soon. Manuel Ugarte is a player the club will cash in on should they receive the right offer this summer.
Keep: Fernandes, Mainoo
Question marks: Mount, Ugarte
This was an area of real success for United in last summer's transfer market and they're building real depth, especially on the flanks. Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha were among the team's best players in their debut campaigns.

Another summer signing in Benjamin Sesko took a little longer to get going, but post-Christmas began coming up with match-winning goals and looked a hand full up top. A back-up to him is likely to be on the club's shortlist with Joshua Zirkzee tipped for pastures new.
Jadon Sancho's contract is expiring and Marcus Rashford looks set to return from his Barcelona loan spell, leaving huge questions over what he and his boyhood club do next.
Amad has been at Manchester for a number of years now and whilst he has increased competition for spot, he has more than enough quality and time on his side to become a strong contributor in a side challenging for honours.
Keep: Sesko, Mbeumo, Cunha, Amad
Question marks: Zirkzee, Rashford
