What are 3 key storylines to know entering this matchup?
1. Sibling rivalry:
The Nuggets-Pacers matchup features seven of the league’s 125 international players this season, including Canadian brothers Andrew and Ryan Nembhard. Andrew, the elder brother by three years, starts at guard for the Pacers and is averaging a career-best 19 points to go with 6.9 assists and 39.5% shooting from 3-point range.
Ryan, the younger brother, is on a two-way contract with Denver, splitting time between the Nuggets and their G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. He has appeared in three games for the Nuggets this season after playing in 60 games a season ago, holding career averages of 6.4 points and 5.0 assists per game. Will the brothers’ first professional head-to-head matchup happen in Mexico City?
2. Jokić on triple-double watch:
On Wednesday, in their final game before heading to Mexico, Nikola Jokić recorded his 201st career triple-double — and for the 90th time accomplished it before the fourth quarter even began — with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in a win over Toronto. The Serbian center now needs only nine triple-doubles to pass former teammate Russell Westbrook for the most in NBA history.
While this is the Nuggets’ second trip to Mexico in team history — they played a preseason game against the Warriors back in 2006 — this will be the first (and perhaps only) time fans in Mexico will be able to witness Jokić’s mastery of the game in person.
3.
Pacers playing without Haliburton (again):
The Pacers will not have All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton available in Mexico as he is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out for at least another week.
Last season, the Pacers played the entire season without Haliburton as he recovered from a torn Achilles suffered during Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. Indiana went 19-63 last season without their star guard and have gone 1-4 in his absence so far this season. The Pacers have been 11.3 points per 100 possessions better with Haliburton on court compared to when he’s off this season.
With Haliburton out, watch for fellow All-Star Pascal Siakam to take on a heavier load. The 11th-year pro from Cameroon has appeared in eight games this season, averaging 21.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Siakam (20 points) and Andrew Nembhard (22 points) combined for 42 points in Indy’s sole win without Haliburton this season as they beat the then 6-1 Memphis Grizzlies.
