Real Madrid beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to £50m transfer

Real Madrid have fended off competition from Premier League clubs to complete the signing of Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Spanish giants announced on Saturday that the central defender will join the club at the end of this season on a five-year deal.

Real activated the £50 million release clause in his Bournemouth contract, which will be paid in three instalments.

A number of top clubs in Europe were keen on signing the 20-year-old, with Premier League sides Arsenal , Chelsea and Liverpool all linked with the youngster.

However, Huijsen prioritised a move to the Bernabeu this summer and will leave Bournemouth early in order to play at Fifa Club World Cup, which will kick off in the United States in June.

Bournemouth said: “The centre-back, who joined the Cherries from Juventus last summer, has been instrumental in the club’s record-breaking campaign, which has seen Andoni Iraola’s side already break their highest points tally in the Premier League .”
