Reece James 'devastated' by Chelsea transfer decision ahead of Xabi Alonso arrival

Reece James admits he has been left ‘devastated’ by Marc Cucurella ’s decision to leave Chelsea for Real Madrid .
On Monday, Madrid announced their £51.8 million deal to sign Cucurella after stepping up their negotiations for the left-back last weekend.
Cucurella, who is with Spain’s squad for their World Cup campaign, was one of Jose Mourinho’s top targets and Madrid acted quickly to beat competition from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
The 27-year-old spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge and James believes Chelsea have just sold one of the best left-backs in world football.
‘I spoke with him [Cucurella] a few days ago,’ James told talkSPORT .
‘You know, he’s obviously an amazing player, one of the best left-backs in the world, for sure.

‘This is football. Players move every few months and I’m devastated to see him go. But I wish him all the best.’
Meanwhile, James says he is ‘excited’ to work with new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso .
‘Everyone I’ve spoken to about him [Alonso] says he’s an amazing manager, more known from his playing career,’ James said.
‘He had an amazing career and I’m excited to work with him.’
