RUNNING OUT OF PALS?! Infantino and Trump meeting NOT happening as third nation calls for FIFA boss to resign

Gianni Infantino has not scheduled a call with members of Donald Trump's Cabinet in a bid to save his FIFA job, the Mirror has been told. Claims that the under-fire FIFA president requested a call where he was reportedly set to appeal for support have also been denied by the US government.

Infantino’s future as FIFA President has been a topic of speculation ever since controversial proposals emerged, which would have seen the federation sell shares in its major tournaments, including the men’s and women’s World Cups, as well as the Club World Cup.

FIFA have since confirmed that the plans, which were named the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), have been dropped after the widespread criticism which has followed.

As a result, speculation has been swirling about Infantino’s future as FIFA President, with the New York Post now reporting that a meeting has been arranged with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Mirror Football understands that, despite the recent reports, no meeting is scheduled to take place between Infantino and members of the Trump administration, including the US Secretary of State.

Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson has written in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, to deny that such a meeting is taking place between Rubio and Infantino.

England and Wales have already called for a leadership change at FIFA, with both nations withdrawing their support for Infantino’s re-election bid as President.

Serbia recently became the latest country to withdraw their support for Infantino to be re-elected as FIFA President.

In a statement released on Monday, they said: "We recall that FA of Serbia formally expressed its support for Mr Infantino in writing on 25 May this year, but after a thorough consideration of the developments that have seriously undermined the reputation and credibility of both FIFA and its President in the past period, this is the only logical and rational move.

"Football Association of Serbia is of the opinion that the future of world football must be founded on transparency, dialogue, mutual respect, and partner relations among all confederations and national associations.

"We believe that no decision of strategic importance for the future of football should be made without broad consensus and open consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

"Football Association of Serbia remains committed to cooperation with FIFA, UEFA, and all national associations for the purpose of development and improvement of football, but is also of the opinion that at this moment a new trust is needed, as well as a new approach, and management that will contribute to restoring dialogue, unity, and the credibility of international football institutions."
