Salford City have announced that England legend Jill Scott has joined the club as a Football Advisor.

The former Everton and Manchester City retired at the end of the 2021/22 season and has worked with Salford co-owner Gary Neville in the media in recent months.

She will now be tasked with 'shaping the technical programme' and 'supporting the development of players and coaching staff' at the club. Salford announced Scott's appointment alongside welcome investment in the women's team from American insurance firm AIG

"I’m incredibly excited to be stepping into this new role, helping to drive the Lionesses forward and achieve our powerful ambitions," Scott said.

"With the backing and knowledge of AIG, and a team of passionate, talented people at Salford, I have no doubt that the years ahead will be some of our most memorable yet!"

Salford are currently competing in the North West Women's Regional Football League's Division One Central, which is the sixth tier of women's football. The Lionesses will be expected to do well this season having recruited several players this summer from Stockport County and Blackburn Rovers who were playing in the fourth tier last year.
