Man Utd 8th and Liverpool 15th in list of biggest earners from World Cup payouts

Almost half of the Premier League banked tidy sums from the World Cup as part of FIFA compensation payments. The competition will be viewed as an inconvenience to many clubs, given the risk of injury and interruption to pre-season.
However, there is a financial benefit for players' clubs, as they receive compensation through the FIFA Club Benefits Programme. It was designed to recognise and financially reward clubs for their role in developing, employing and releasing players to participate on the global stage.
Clubs are entitled to roughly £3,750 per day, per player from the release date of May 25 to their national team's final match in the competition. Therefore, the maximum payouts will be due to players from Spain, Argentina, England and France, who played the most games in North America.
Given the Premier League's reputation as the world's top domestic league, English clubs figure prominently in the top 20 of clubs that earned the most from the tournament.

Tottenham Hotspur, who came in at 17th, are due £1.58m, one place behind Chelsea (£1.65m), reports The Athletic . Liverpool, in 15th, earned a similar amount to the Blues. The Reds had eight players at the tournament, including Alexis Mac Allister of runners-up Argentina.
Sunderland are the next English club in 13th, one spot behind Aston Villa. Manchester United (£1.95m) are eighth on the list. They received payments for Kobbie Mainoo, despite the fact that he didn't play a single minute at the tournament, and Marcus Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona.
Crystal Palace (£2.03m), in seventh, were also well represented at the tournament with 12 players, including England back-up keeper Dean Henderson, France pair Maxence Lacroix and Jean-Philippe Mateta and Spain's Yeremy Pino.

Paris Saint-Germain (£2.4m), Arsenal (£2.48m), Bayern Munich (£2.55m), Barcelona (£2.93m) and Manchester City (£3.3m) make up the top five. Barcelona had eight Spain players alone - Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Joan Garcia, Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Pau Cubarsi.
Arsenal had 16 players at the World Cup, three fewer than City, who lost virtually their entire first-time squad to the tournament. Many of those players are enjoying post-World Cup breaks before returning to their clubs in August.

The Premier League kicks off on August 21, with champions Arsenal hosting newly promoted Coventry City. La Liga's World Cup stars get less time to recover, with the Spanish top flight getting underway on August 15.
