World Cup host cities revolt against FIFA over millions in outstanding costs

The host cities for the World Cup in the United States grew tired of waiting

More dirty laundry keeps being aired against FIFA and once again, Gianni Infantinois at the center of the matter. According to The Athletic, the president of the organization promised a contribution of one million dollars to each of the 11 U.S. host cities that hosted matches during the upcoming World Cup.

However, only two weeks after the tournament ended, the host cities are still demanding the promised funds from FIFA. For now, football’s governing body has yet to make the payments owed.

According to Infantino's announcement, the purpose of this financial contribution was to offset the high costs incurred by the host venues in staging the tournament over its 39-day duration. It should be noted that this edition became the largest in history by featuring more participating national teams and, consequently, the highest number of matches played to date.

Four executives from the local organizing committees stated that FIFA communicated on repeated occasions that the cities would receive equivalent compensation for the use of the stadiums. The representatives preferred to remain anonymous to avoid harming their relationships with the institution. And to this day, they still have not received their compensation.
